Hi there,
My name is Nick and I am from Romania. I am really happy to join this list
which I find so interesting.
I did all my secondary studies in France where I graduated this year with a
Master's thesis concerning some issues about reproductive medicine in the
USA. Actually I prepare my applications for a PhD and I would like to
combine bioethics and Foucault (which is means in this case for me
biopolitics) in my essay. I know that there are a lot of articles about, but
I would like to ask you if you have heard something about the effectiveness
of the biopower model in our contemporary societies ? Would you please help
me with some references ?
I understand by this concept of effectiveness that if the biopower emerged
in England (XIX century) in the same time that liberalism thoughts appeared
(context of Poor Law, workhouses see Naissance de la biopolitique - last
Course of College de France published by Michel Senellart) this model that
Foucault determine has some historical conditions of possibility. My
question is: can we find today in our societies a similar context which
would help us to sustain similar conclusions ? In other words, does
Foucaldian model of biopower pass the test of our actual world ? Does it
work today ?
I am sorry because my English is not so good as my French but I hope that my
email is comprehensible.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nick
