First, there is no Routledge edition of Archaeology, that is, unless Routledge
swallowed up Tavistock Publications over the last couple of years. (The
American publisher is the Pantheon Division of Randoim House.)

Second, the passage cited here is not even a complete sentence! It is part of
a much more detailed thought on the task of "archaeology" in relationship to
the phases of discourses. The sentence as a whole, and in its context, is
quite lucid. Methinks the 'critic' here, to paraphrase Dale Bumpers "wants to
win too much."
