Rorty is a clever polemicist. he has this style of prose that radically
deflates the pretentions and metaphysical ambitions of more philosophically
grounded vocabulaires, only to substitute it with the pretentions of a
practical-minded "down to earth" popular intellectual. Yuch! His
conditional embrace of postmodernism (for its having short circuited the
unnecessary labour of metaphysics and post metaphysics) is part of his
banal anti-intellectualism. I don't imagine he wastes any time worrying
about the "performative contradictions" of Foucault's epistemology or
ethics, and probably sees a useful but slightly dizzy Dewian.
