first, for those who have not yet seen it, Sarah Nettleton's
_Power, Pain, and Dentistry_ (1992) is an excellent foucauldian
study. i recommend it in particular for those who would like a
model approach to an aspect of f's work.

second, i was amused to see, when i bought some toothbrushes recently,
that they had a little blue stripe on them which diminished in length
as the toothbrush was used. they were advertised as being the sort of
toothbrush that allows parents to watch their kids to make sure that
they were brushing!
