Linji Yixuan (臨済義玄; Lin-chi I-hsüan; Rinzai Gigen; Lin-Tsi )

Linjii, monk in 9th century China. His sermons were collected into the Linji lu (Chinese; Japanese: Rinzai Roku), the Records of Linji by his students.

Michel Foucault never published about Linji, but cited him in 1978 in an interview given during a stay in Japan at the Seionji Temple: "I like the Zen master Rinzai. He is not a translator of the Sutra nor the founder of the Chinese Zen, but I think he is a great Zen philosopher" (DE III, p.620)
